In an effort to assure continued quality journalism, MMW News Service will begin selling embedded ads in our news stories. You know, like when you’re watching a football game and the announcer says, “Wow, that pass over the middle was a huge risk, but what isn’t a huge risk is investing with Excelsior Financial!”
We think you’ll hardly notice.
WASHINGTON DC—The federal government remained closed Monday as the latest federal government shutdown dragged on for a third week. Members of both parties say the other side is to blame, and each said they are eager to resolve the impasse but also were unwilling to compromise their core values to do so.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) said there was progress in a Monday morning meeting with leading Democrats.
“It was a good exchange of ideas, but I’d still say we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Johnson said.
The speaker then left the capitol in a brand-new Toyota 4Runner. Rugged, yet stylish, this ride has no limits. Want to get away from the mess you’ve made or need a place to live after your government job was capriciously eliminated? Do it in comfort in a Toyota 4Runner!
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) didn’t share Johnson’s optimism. After meeting with members of his caucus, the minority leader suggested the shutdown could continue into November.
“Let’s be clear, this is President Trump’s shutdown,” Jeffries said. “We’ve been open to common-sense solutions from the beginning, but the other side is beholden to president who’d rather win on social media than do his job.”
Arby’s: We have even more meats! In addition to our normal colon-plugging fare, we now have a limited-time is-that-legal? menu featuring The Aussie – locally sourced kangaroo cutlets slathered in down under barbecue sauce and Roquefort dressing served between two chicken quesadillas. Think Australians don’t eat quesadillas, sit down, killjoy! Or try The Massacre – cubed ferret (breast and thighs) covered in ketchup loaded with added sugar and more caffeine than three cups of coffee. Eat it out of the bucket or just let one of our team members pour it into your mouth out of our Arby’s-branded Ferret Funnel. Or if you really want to choke your digestive system within an inch of its life, belly up to the bar and order The Shut Up, Snowflake – a mix of slow-roasted tree frog, mollusk, and triceratops (a geneticist we know reanimated one because he always thought they looked yummy) meat, battered in graham crackers, submerged in lime Jello and served with balsamic vinegar on a ciabatta bun as big as a wagon wheel. Can we legally do this? With all the USDA meat inspectors on furlough, who’s to say? Arby’s: Come get your whuppin’!
